Note: This article is for the spell "Butcher's Masquerade". For the book of the same title, see The Butcher's Masquerade (Book).
The Butcher's Masquerade is a spell that only the most divine can cast, and they can cast it only once in their life. It creates a party and guest list, and no one on the guest list can be harmed unless in self defense. The guest list is designed to be as disharmonious as possible. If the party finishes without violence, everyone attending gains a boon from Apito. If someone breaks the peace they are fed into the Nothing. Different factions are put in different rooms, and guests aren’t allowed to leave their room until the party is over or the peace deal is broken.
The spell has never been successfully completed.
There is also a pet show and talent competition.
History
The first masquerade was put on by Taranis and Apito for their extended family in the Twelfth Floor. It was called a Masquerade even though they didn't wear masks, because they could pretend they were not enemies. Yarilo was the first to break the peace when he attempted to rape a familiar of one of the other gods. As punishment, he was banished to the Nothing. All the remaining gods fought and murdered each other. Afterwards, the party became a ritual.
