Category:Duplicated Page

I Found (or Created) a Duplicated Page. Now What?

You have three options! (Four, technically; you could just walk away.)

Option 1: Merge the two pages per the instructions below.

Option 2: If the second page has no data, open your preferred Editor and enter {{Delete}} at the top of the page to flag it for deletion.

Option 3: Sort both pages into the "Duplicated Page" category. This flags the pages for the mods, and gives other users the option to consolidate information. To do this:

  • Visual Editor: Select the "Page Options" button (three horizontal bars on the right side of the editor), then "Options," and "Add Category."
  • Source Editor: Type <noinclude>[[Category:Duplicated Page]]</noinclude> at the bottom of the page.

Merging Duplicate Pages

As a general rule of thumb, choose the page with the least complicated or most accurate title to be the main page. Take some time to include pertinent information from the duplicate page in the text of the main page. When done:

  • On the obsolete page, select "What Links Here" on the sidebar. Revise each linked page to ensure that they link to the correct page. (It may be worth checking this for both pages before deciding which page should be the main page.)
  • Remove the "Duplicated Page" category from both pages.
  • Open the Editor for the second, now-obsolete page, and type {{Delete}} at the top of the page. This will flag it for deletion.
