System Message
Due to the complexity of rules and history around the the Faction Wars (game), a large amount of content has been moved to this page. For details about Ninth Floor specifically, please see the Ninth Floor page.
Overview
The Ninth Floor Faction Wars are a Dungeon Crawler World tradition: Syndicate corporations and governments sponsor nine teams, which then battle each other to the in-game "death" for control of Larracos and a large cash prize.[2][3] As the “non-Dungeon-generated combatants” (read: tourists) duel each other, crawlers are conscripted against their will into the various forces and killed en masse. Full crawler extinction is common on the Ninth Floor.[2]
Syndicate corporations, governments, and individuals may purchase one of nine faction spots for approximately 150 million credits, or "enough money to buy your own planet."[4] The leader of a faction is the Warlord, and alien citizens who participate in the game are called "non-Dungeon-generated-combatants" or "tourists."[5]

Preparations
The Ninth Floor opens to tourists shortly before the collapse of the Second Floor, but Factions cannot begin fighting each other until after crawlers arrive on the level.[5][3] Serious commanders may spend the weeks in between training their armies, but many participants choose to party in Larracos or gamble away credits in the Desperado Club.[3]
Each Faction or "Clan" can bring a war chest containing a set volume of supplies; these chests typically contain stat- or skill-boosting potions, rings, "and other small but powerful items" that are consumed or distributed within 15 minutes of arriving on the floor.[5]
Ceasefire
The Ceasefire is the first stage of Faction Wars and starts upon floor start. It expires in 60 hours or until canceled.[6] The ceasefire can be canceled if a warlord is killed and a team is eliminated. Once the Ceasefire ends, only Team Retribution may remain in Larracos. {cite|7|1}}

Factions
Dungeon Crawler World: Earth is shaping up differently from previous seasons.
The Dreadnoughts were originally going to be part of the faction wars but withdrew after their army was obliterated when Carl opened the Gate of the Feral Gods into the level and flooded the floor. The Burrowers tried to replace them but pulled out at the last minute when the System AI learnt that they 'd been throwing infant AI's into a star, they were replaced by the Princess Posse.
After the System AI started going primal all factions except the Skull Empire, the Prism Kingdom Clan, and the Princess Posse attempted to abandon Faction Wars but their request was refused.

Army Building

Alliances
Alliances between Factions can be formed by declaring a formal truce between teams. [6]
- The Bloc: Between all syndicate system teams. The Bloc declares war against both the Princess Posse and Team Retribution.
- The Good Guys:Between the Princess Posse and the Team Retribution.
Faction Wars Terms
Action Item
Any team can propose an Action Item during the pre-production meeting planning stages. Each team has three emergency action items they can use at any time.
Adjutant
An Adjutant is a neutral third-party consultant and referee for Ninth Floor Faction Wars teams.
Protections
In a typical season, alien tourists are covered by protections that prevent them from being killed on the Ninth Floor.[12] If they are "killed" before crawlers arrive on the level, they are temporarily removed from the game and then regenerate at dawn.[13] If they are killed after crawlers arrive, they are permanently (but safely, and with no lasting injuries) removed from the Dungeon for the remainder of the season.[12]
Warlord
A Warlord is the person (or persons) in charge of a faction. Once all warlords for a team have been eliminated, the team has lost faction wars.
History
- The Skull Clan has won six of the last ten Faction Wars, and has ranked in the top three for all ten.[14]
- The Blood Sultanate always participates, and is "almost always" the first team eliminated.[14]
- There is usually "an organized military presences" on the ninth floor.[15]
- The victorious army's Warlord always has an item like the Enchanted Night Wyrm's Ring of Divine Suffering.[16]
