Graupel is an expensive war spell that generates a powerful ice storm.[1] It should only be cast outdoors.[2]

Description

Graupel costs (50) Mana Points to cast, but casts instantaneously.[1][2] The crawler's hands glow with bluish-white light while casting, and the glow spreads around the caster. It has a full one week cooldown period.[2]

Once cast, a storm rolls through the area and fist-sized chunks of hail pelt down from the sky. At level 16, the storm is deafening, obscures the sky with smoke and steam and hail, and ice coats the battlefield.[2]

Story

Elle McGibbons receives a Tome of Graupel in a Loot Box after helping Carl fight against Grull (piloted by the Maestro) on the Fourth Floor.[1] She uses the spell for the first time to crash the air castle in her Fifth Floor Bubble.[2]

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 6
Elle casts the spell again during the final phase of the Eighth Floor, but the level 5 spell casts at level 16 power instead. She gains (6) levels at once. Next to her, Samantha hovers six feet off the ground and glows the same bluish-white. After, Samantha seems confused and concerned "for the first time," and spins in circles as she mumbles to herself about how Elle is on the four seasons path, Samantha is stronger as well, and the tree.[2]

Trivia

  • "Graupel," also called "soft hail" or "snow pellets," are created when supercooled water molecules in the air freeze on falling snow. They are typically conical-shaped, fragile crystals, and may form during thunderstorms or winter storms.[3]
