"Thanks a lot Carl and Donut, you fucking assholes." -- Quan Ch's first words[1]

Quan Ch is an Asian Crawler from Earth who frequently appears on the Leaderboard.

Description

On Earth, Quan was a father and a ranked champion of "some weird nerd card game."[2]

In the Dungeon, Quan Ch chooses the Half-Elf race and Imperial Security Trooper Class, which he later upgrades to Sergeant-at-Arms Class. He exits the Third Floor with a celestial-tier enchanted robe that allows him to fly on ethereal wings, cast a Level 15 Shield Spell, and shoot blue lightning from his left hand.[3] Mordecai suspects that the blue lightning is the powerful Disrupter Spell.

Quan is a bully and a coward, so naturally he uses his new robe to snipe experience and cause general mayhem with no regard for how his actions affect other crawlers. He rapidly gains levels and fans, and rockets up the Dungeon's Top Ten List.

Appearance

Quan appears to be Asian and is a "small guy."[4] There's a pretty dramatic change to his appearance after the Fifth Floor.

Story

Book 2

Quan Ch was within the 45 square kilometers (~ 28 square miles) of the blast radius when the Fools Who Broke the Glass Quest triggered, and promptly used the newly created quest chat to insult Carl and Donut.[1] Donut responded by blocking him from the chat; as a result, he did not flee for the Fourth Floor with the other crawlers, and was the only quest participant to receive the intended prize: a Celestial Quest Box. He also received the Bandit Achievement for not contributing to the quest in any way.[3]

Book 3

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 3

Because Quan opened the Quest Box and received the intended prize, he did not receive the Cuck Aquaman Achievement or the associated It's Not My Fault You Fish-Headed Assholes Don't Properly Program Your Quests Box with the Personal Space coupons.

The Quest Box contained a glowing robe which, when equipped, grows magical wisp-like wings from his back and gives him both a Level 15 Shield Spell and the ability to shoot blue lightning from his left hand.[3][5] The lightning attack is powerful enough to completely stop and destroy train engines and Mantaur conductors in the Iron Tangle, so he decides to fly around and farm the conductors for experience points.[5] As a result, train lines stop running and thousands of crawlers are stuck.[6]

Quan shows up a couple times on the Leaderboard throughout the Fourth Floor. After Katia kills Hekla, Carl thinks Katia might be the highest level crawler in the Dungeon at that time, but then sees the leaderboard and realizes the Quan has the top level. [7]

Book 4

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 4

Miriam Dom and Prepotente nearly kill a province boss before the floor collapses by putting it to sleep and stacking debuffs, but Quan zips into the room and fires a magical bolt at the boss, waking it up. While Miriam and Prepotente flee, Quan shoots the boss a few times, lowering it to half health, but runs away when it swings at him.[8]

On the Fifth Floor, he shares a Bubble with Anton, Paz Lo, and Sister Ines, but doesn't get along with them.[9] He pops his Bubble with 10 Days remaining to level collapse and flies around farming mobs.[10] Shortly after the AI issues the Get Orthrus Quest with the promise of massive rewards for killing the puppy (which would effectively kill everyone in the Royal Court of Princess Donut's Bubble and Bubble 18), Quan immediately flies by and targets the giant puppy with a spell.[11] Tran sends Quan a message explaining the situation, and Quan replies:

“Sorry, but it’s too good of a prize. Plus, if I get that fucking cat in the process it’d be a bonus.” [4]

As a direct result of Quan's interference, Carl is forced to worship Emberus and then summon the god with a Celestial Grenade, which gives Carl invulnerability for sixty seconds. Emberus leaves, Donut is unconscious, and as Carl attempts to regain his bearings, Quan shoots him in the back before the "Divine Intervention" runs out. Quan attempts to escape using a special rocket-like ability, Carl tries to prevent him from leaving by grabbing his left arm... and, in Donut's words, "it came off like a piece of chicken."[4][12]

Book 5

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 5
Quan arrives on the Sixth Floor looking ill and pale, and takes the Sergeant-at-Arms Class during selection.[13] He falls off the Leaderboard early on, but manages to kill an Odious Creeper later on the level.[14] He does not attend the Butcher's Masquerade.

Book 6

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 6
In the final phase of the Eighth Floor, Quan follows Carl, Donut, and Imani to Cuba, and forces the Royal Court and Sister Ines into a three-way T'Ghee Card battle. He plays a card that forcibly switches his hand with Donut's, giving her a hand full of Flee Cards, then casts Force Play; as a result, he seizes both Stairwell keys.[15] He has gained sixty player killer skulls since the Fifth Floor, and Donut ultimately receives credit for his brutal death. Carl returns the simple gold ring from his daughter before his death, and Quan's final words are, "She'd be ashamed of what I've become."[16]

Progression & Gear

Third Floor

When Quan Ch leaves the floor, he is Level 15 and wearing his Celestial-tier robe. It grants:

  • Flight
  • Shield Spell
  • Magic lightning attack; possibly the Disrupter spell.

Fourth Floor

Quan rapidly gains levels. After roughly 3 days, he reaches level 31 and replaces Li Jun on the Leaderboard. Some four days later (three days remaining to floor collapse), he is Level 38, the highest level crawler in the Dungeon, and #5 on the Leaderboard.[7]

Fifth Floor

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 4

Quan is still #5 when the Leaderboard first populates, but he is now Level 43. He is still the highest level Crawler in the Dungeon. By the time he confronts Carl and Donut, he is level 48, #7 on the leaderboard, and has a ton of neighborhood and borough boss kills over his head but no player killer skulls. He stumbles down the stairs, armless, with more than 3 Days and 7 Hours remaining on the level timer. He is #10 on the Leaderboard at the end of the floor.[4]

There were three rings on his left hand, which are now in Carl's inventory along with his entire left arm up to the shoulder:

Sixth Floor

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 5
Quan is level 48 at the beginning of the floor, but falls off the leaderboard early on.

Eighth Floor

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 6
When Quan forces Carl, Donut, and Sister Ines into a card battle, he is level 70, one level ahead of Carl.[15] He now has more than sixty player killer skulls and "more crap in his inventory" than Carl, including a ton of magical weapons, a bowler hat that could decapitate people when thrown, a sock full of nickels, and 5 million gold.[16][17]
