Slingshot

Zev implored me to stop training with the slingshot. Nobody liked me using the “boring” slingshot, she claimed, not when I could toss a stick of dynamite instead. [1]

Slingshots are small, handheld, hand-powered projectile weapons typically made with a Y-shaped frame with an elastic strip tied to the ends of each prong. On Earth, slingshots are common toys but have also been used as military weapons by guerilla forces. During the Siege of Marawi in 2017, the Philippine Army's elite Scout Rangers used slingshots to hurl grenades at opposing forces.[2][3]

In the Dungeon, slingshots may be found on low-level mobs, and do a small amount of damage. If a crawler insists on training with a slingshot, they (slowly) gain levels in the Slingshot Skill, Steady Hand Skill, and Aiming Skill.[4]

Story

Book 1

Not long after entering the Second Floor, Carl loots a slingshot and some bags of rocks from an Unvaccinated Clurichaun Rev-Up Consultant and spends hours training with it. The Slingshot Skill appears to stall out at level 3, at which point he gains the Aiming Skill and Steady Hand Skill.[4]

Zev implores Carl to stop training with the slingshot since it's unpopular with the fans. He ignores her advice and continues training with it, raising his skill to level 5. [1]

Book 2

Upon entering the Third Floor, Carl sees a sky with stars where a ceiling should be. He pulls out his slingshot and shoots a rock at the sky. The rock hits about 25 feet up, revealing the height of the floor. [5]

When Carl gets his Xistera from the Fan Box, he abandons his slingshot for the much more versatile weapon. [6]

Carl: You win, Zev. No more slingshot.

Zev: Yay! People are pretty excited about this. I’m glad you got it. It was a close vote with something utterly inappropriate.
